There is Stars Furnituer at 45 & Airline. DO NOT GO TO CONN'S. Their name tells it all!!!!!! Sears as a scratch & dent off the S.610 loop.

For furniture... I can tell you this... go down Harwin! Man I got so much tings for Under $1000, Livining, dining, and Master bedroom! You can bargain with them too!!!!

Star and Fingers have outlets if you are looking for bargains.  There is also a place on 45S that is just open on Sundays at noon.  Cheapest place for appliances is Sears scratch and dent off of 45S near the 610 loop.  

If you elaborate more on what type of furniture you are searching for, I could give you better suggestions.  

For instance, Ikea has some great buys on furniture but you would have to like that style.  Overstock also has great bargains and almost free shipping--you just need to read the reviews before purchasing to see if others thought the quality was sufficient.  Cost Plus World Market also has some great stuff for reasonable prices but it's imported--you would need to seal the bottoms of the legs on hardwood furniture to keep it from staining your carpet.
