People traditionally use safty deposit boxes in banks for document storage, but I suppose you mean something beyond that if you have a lot of papers or want back-up.   It does seem like it would be good to have back storage in other locations.  For instance, I wish I had some backup storage in a state that isn't in earthquake country.  At the same time, my major papers would be documented with major financial companies, & unless the world as we know it came to an end, I could always get a replacement for my birth certificate from the government.

    Don't title companies have copies of most deeds stored? Well, not always.  There was a case when I had to send a certified letter to a bank in order to allow a friend to get into an out-of-state safety deposit box.  Even with a deed, there still has to be a title search, but it's less expensive than if you have nothing for the realtor to hand over.
