I am self employed in the state of texas, how can I file for unemployement?

The economy here has all but shut down due to the fuel cost. I have not had a paycheck since April of 2008. There are jobs availible 60 to 70 miles away but none to pay enough to be able to afford to drive there.

  1. You can't.    Even if you paid the insurance, you can not lay yourself off.


  2. Sorry, if you are self employed you aren't eligible for unemployment comp

  3. first of all, call your local Department of Labor.  They should be able to help.

    With you being "self-employed" it may be a little more difficult than if you worked for someone else.
