I am self employed....?

Question

...and I have worked for the same guy for a while now. He has just told me that he does not have any more work for me after today...

My wife is unable to work due to ill health and is on Incapacity Benefit...

If I were to contact the Benefits agency, would I be able to sign on and get help with paying my mortgage?

Obviously I will be looking fo more work next week, but the way our climate is at the moment, it may take a while, so I am concerned about paying our mortgage...

Any ideas?

when you took out the mortgage you should have been advised on various insurance products that would have covered you in these circumstances (temporarily), what happened?

Anyway, yes you would be entitled to jobseekers allowance and you could get help with your mortgage.

yes they will pay your mortgage, can take a while to come through i think its about 9 weeks, but they just freeze your mortgage so the intrest stops

if your employer is paying the premium then you will receive something but if not... i am so sorry.

Do you have payment protection insurance (PPI) ? You need to check the terms and conditions of your mortgage contract. Yes, you need to sign on to job seekers allowance. There may be other benefits you can claim too. I don't know your situation, so have put a link in for a benefits calculator which you may find useful. I am sorry to hear that you have problems with your job. You may be able to claim frustration of contact and should see an experienced adviser as soon as possible.
