Question:

I am skeptical about standard tests. In psychometrics how do you account for these--assuming no one cheated?

I belong to a bunch of so-called underachievers--a dumb appellation as are most terms in education. Another dumb concept is I.Q. as far as I'm concerned (and as a lot of psychologists are concerned). One of my 'underachieving' friends scored 168 on a school administered I.Q. test. Where would this 'officially' place him on the I.Q. continuum. 2) Another 'underachieving friend' took the GRE's. He said to me, "Man these lame tests suck and are boring to boot." So, he took heroin & LSD just not be bored to death. He scored 800 on the verbal & 800 on the math. Is there any reason the drugs 'SHOULD' have caused him to score lower, given he always scores in the top 1% or so in these b.s. standardized tests?

  1. Underachievers are not necessarily unintelligent; a lot depends on motivation and attitude, e.g. your second case.

  2. standard tests are not for everyone
