three days ago, i went to the doctor for my annual. they refused to give me a blood pregnancy test because i have not missed my period yet. The next day i took a pregnancy test and it came up with a very faint second line. I know i did it right and it was not past it's 10 min mark. the morning after that i took another one....nothing..today i got a digital and it said "not pregnant" is there a chance i may be pregnant or was that a false reading?

the line was very faint, but both my boyfriend and i could see it.

we are both very confused. ...so any help would be nice. it is very hard to go from exited to confused like this

  1. id give it a couple more days n if you still feel like you could be pregnant then id go back to the doctor but ask them to do a urine pregnancy test, it could have been a duff test, thats why you got the faint line, but then again i got a faint line with my second and i found out i was 7 weeks gone,

either way, good luck and hope you get the answer you want!

  2. digital tests aren't as accurate as other ones. Wait a few days and get another test done.

  3. My first pregnancy test w/ my daughter showed I was NOT pregnant when I had classic symptoms and I later retook it (perhaps 7+ days later) and it was positive. SO they are not fool proof. You probably need more time or need to get blood drawn.

  4. Take your pregnancy test after you first wake up in the morning to go pee. Its always the best because your high hormone level.   If you are trying get pregnant it can take up to 5 weeks from your first missed period to show. But if you haven't missed a period, your more then likely safe.

  5. All pregnancy tests have different sensitivities. Some can pick up the pregnancy hormone earlier than others. The digital test may not have been as sensitive as the first test. Try testing again in a week or so, the pregnancy hormone doubles every day.

It could also be a chemical pregnancy, an early miscarriage caused by a defect in the egg, sperm, or lining of the uterus. It is typical in a chemical pregnancy to receive a positive one day and a negative the next.

Almost all sexually active women have experienced a chemical pregnancy. The pregnancy ends around the time of a period, so most women never knew they were pregnant. This is one reason why it is advised not to test before your period is due.

This article better explains a chemical pregnancy:

If you test again, closer to the time your period is due, and it's a positive, I think it's safe to assume you are pregnant.

  6. From what I was told there is no false positive. However I really don't think it's right that your doctor refuses to give you blood tests just because you haven't missed your period. I would try them again or find another facility that can help you with this to give you a valid answer then just makeing you wait it out before they'll test you.
