Okay, So I want to be an international student in France. I live in the US right now. I want to go to college in France and eventually become a citizen there. How exactly should i go about doing this? I hear it's not easy to become a citizen of France. What are some things I have to do or programs I can go through to make this as simple as possible. I would also like to live with a host family for a while. I was thinking about being a foreign exchange student next year (my senior year) but it probably wouldn't be very smart for me to do that... because I am a musician and I obviously need plan b to France. So I have to stay here and audtition for music schools here. Please help me! This is all so confusing and it's something I really want for my life. I need'a know how to do this and how it all works!

THANKS!!!! :D

  1. First and most importantly: how well do you speak French?

There's a HUGE difference between doing well in class and being able to converse on prepared subjects, and being able to cope with native speakers who have a wide variety of accents and speak fast. Start listening to French radio - you need to be able to understand it. Have you ever lived somewhere where you had to use French (or any other foreign language) all day every day? It's really, really hard work.

Plan B...it doesn't sound like you're that serious about France, to be honest. If you want to move to France then you want to move to France and your plan B should involve other things in France, why do you want to apply to music schools in the US?

  2. The easiest employments for foreign students in France are along the lines of "Jeunne Fille Au Pair" - babysitter.

Advertisements for the positions are in publications such as by FUSAC - http://www.fusac.fr/en/annonces_categori...  (and others).

You could make that a summer job, while getting more proficient in the language, and researching the next steps.

To study in France, you will need proficiency in the language, such as the following requirements from Sorbonne University:

Of course, you could also practice your music and join the many street musicians in Paris... :) :)

    Bonne chance!
