Call Me a coward, but there are big storms brewing and us kids (we are 11, 14 and 16) are home alone tonight and the kind of storms brewing are known to produce tornadoes and we don't have a basement and I am so scared I feel like I'm about to barf! Yeah call me chicken, but I've been through a small tornado before and it was no fun. What should I do?

  1. i would strategize the best place in your house, if there were a tornado...

the center most inner room of your house... preferably no windows, and all that..... such as an inner closet, or pantry... where is the bathroom? if it is in the center of the house, you are good.

second, i would take mattresses, and pillows, to cushion yourselves, while in the inner most room of ur house.... blankets and such, you should get all three of you in there, and cover your heads w/ the mattress.... also be sure to cup your hands around your neck, to protect your head, from flying debris... you guys should be fine... just make sure that you listen to the radio, and have flashlights, or candles, be careful while burning candles.... only if necessary should you burn candles... maybe look for a battery controlled radio, incase the power goes out...

maybe you could go to one of your neighbor's houses, and tell them that you guys are home alone, and that you would feel better if you were with an adult, or something...

i'm sure there's nothing to be worried about... most storms will blow over in a couple of hours... just be there to comfort each other.

  2. I am a trained weather spotter.  The worse part about the job is when your in a car, it's very dark, raining so bad that all you can see is your radio antenna out side, if that.  Then net control calls you in and say's "you should be right under it.  Can you confirm that the tornado has touched the ground."  At a time like that, all you can do is turn some dance music on and don't think about what it can do.  unless you have a way out.

  3. umm if the storms in your area are that bad i am sure all houses would be equipped with some kind of underground shelter or basement. it cant be that bad. if it was i am sure you wouldnt be alone that is for sure. atleast i hope your parents would be there lol

  4. I hate tornadoes more than almost anything else.

If you guys are scared and have a neighbor (preferablely someone with kids, they'll understand)

or if you don't then go to the middle of the house and stand under tables and chairs. if you can put books over you necks just in case.

  5. First WHY are you youngsters all alone at night? Where are the adults , more so if the weather is so crappy? No you are not a coward - Its natural to be frightened- Get the adults to be around Just  watching movies or hiding is not your best bet- you need help , whether something  happens or not you should not be  alone

  6. The safest place in your home is an interior room with no windows, like a hallway on the ground floor, for example.  Watch TV for updates.  If your power is still on, gather up a flashlight and a battery operated radio and put them in the hallway, maybe along with some pillows and blankets.  If you see tornado watch alerted on TV, it just means a tornado might form, while tornado warning, means you need to get into your interior room immediately until the TV or radio announces the storms have passed. If you live in a relatively populated area, storm sirens will probably sound if a tornado is spotted.....

  7. oh my god i remember when i was at wal * mart and a godforsaken tornado started forming right in fornt of the store and everyone was looking up at the sky and people were stopping what they were doing and looking up at the sky i  almost **** myself, really lol. That thing was big too but i was prepared...

if you don't have a basement crouch down in the bathtub and cover your head, hide in a place with no windows! or if your outside go hide in a ditch and cover your head.

don't be a stranger with the weather channel if you have severe in your area the weather channel will probably broadcast a tornado for your area

make sure you a radio and proper supplies like food that won't spoil,uh batteries,flashlights,first-aid kits anything like that

you should be okay but just in case i missed anything here is a link for some more tornado tips

  8. The best thing i've found to do when i was scared during a Hurricane / Storm was to just go on the back porch or if u have a screened are go there and just watch the storm, if you see any swirls in the air or anything you might see hazardous like a falling or big swaying tree go to a room with no windows. In Florida during a hurricane any room with little to no windows is a safe place to hide incase of an emergency, the bathroom is always the safest due to the piping around it. Your not a coward if you've been through a tornadoe before you have every reason to be scared. Their about the deadliest natural disaster.

  9. Why don't u all sleep in the same room and keep the tv on so you'll know if there is any trouble.  Or do u maybe have a neighbor or someone u could spend the night with?

  10. i duno watch a movie or something how bad can a storm be, their more relaxing than a hot day
