I was wondering what the most cost effective way to do this would be. I won't always have internet access, so Skype is not the answer. Could someone recommend a kind of calling card, or maybe should I get a Go-phone with international access? Thanks!

  1. Do some sort of calling card. There are many different ones like at Walmart, Kmart and what not. They usually have good rates because all of them are in competition with each other.

  2. If you have a triband cell phone you could bring it with you and get a prepaid sim card in Spain or ask your cell phone company about their international calling rates.

    Another option would be:

I would go to a vodafone store in Spain and purchase a sim card. International companies have free incoming calls ..You pay for only the outgoing calls.Meaning if your parents call you , you don't pay .

If you go with your cell phone company and use your U.S. number , your parents do not pay but you pay to receive and to call out.
