  1. Dang your tall for an 8th grader. At 8th great they don't expect you to be really good at volleyball.

And you sound like you would be a really good front row player, since your tall, you can block and spike. You don't really have to be a really good setter.

    Good luck .

  2. 5'10 in 8th grade. You should be fine. In 8th grade they don't expect you to be professional. Spend a little extra time on your setting to build some confidence. Just go out and have fun and have a good attitude. If you mess up shake it off. Coaches will appreciate that. Good luck!

  3. its 8th grade. don't worry you'll make it. and all you have to do to set is make sure to keep your hands in the triangle position. and push up with the pads of your fingers. don't worry...if you can do all that and you just cant set, i am sre you will do fine. they will teach you.

  4. yes you have a good chance....and it's normal to be nervous...however learn to channel your nervous and give it your best. at 5'10 you should be fine....have confidence and work hard at all aspect of the sport.

  5. Sounds like you have some natural athletic abilities, so you should be fine.  Only needing to work on one aspect of the game (volleyball) doesn't make you much different than any other player I've ever seen.

  6. You have more of more of a chance than anyone who does not try out.  It seems you're athletic, so that will help with stanima.  Being nervous is expected, but do not let the neves take the most of you.  Sometimes getting too nervous can make you lose focus and flexibility.

I compete 3 to 6 times a year in martial arts competitions, I still get nervous.  I just try to get to the competitions early, to help ease the nerves.  Be sure to get a good breakfast prior to the tryouts, drink plenty of fluids, and eat a banana, it'll help avoid leg cramps.

  7. I think you have a very good chance of making the team. You don't have to be great at everything to make the team.  If you can't set, they probably won't make you be a setter, you will be an outside hitter.  It would be good if you learn how to set though, so if there are any emergency situations during a rally you will be able to set. I was in eighth grade last year and I was an outside hitter.  I think you will make the team. Just give it your all at try-outs!  Good Luck!
