  1. I agree completely free market would be a complete disaster

  2. Hopefully this legislation will be challenged, The C.F.L. has some good uses, but it is not a good and complete replacement for the incandescent bulb. I use them in a couple of places in my house.  I hate the fact of having to wait 5 minutes for the bulb to warm up completely to achieve full brightness.

And by the way, when have the liberals ever cared about free market.....The scary part is the fact that Bush signed this "lack of energy freedom bill". When I tell people that Bush isn't as conservative as I like, they laugh....but this proves it.

    Edit

I wasn't calling you a liberal, I was just trying to state that the liberals that are in power now despise the free markets. If the free market system were allowed to work as intended, then there would be no reason to legislate the use of C.F.L's. Legislating C.F.L.'s is an end run around the free market(as is the unrealistic mandated increases in automotive efficiency)

I have several problems with C.F.L.'s as a complete replacement for the incandescent bulb. First and foremost, there are none of these bulbs manufactured in the U.S. Secondly, I read a news report the other day about a school being locked down for a minor mercury spill from a broken thermometer. By all accounts the amount of this spill is equal to the amount of mercury in a C.F.L. A women in the north East made the mistake of calling her State's D.E.P. after one broke in her daughter's bedroom. The estimate she got to clean up the "hazardous waste" from one C.F.L. was over $2000.00. And third, the fact that it takes them several minutes to warm up to the point where they achieve full brightness. It takes them even longer to warm up in colder environments, such as my workshops.

  3. we don't practice lessez faire...that would be stupid.
