  1. Travel light (very light) cause getting around (to/from hotel) with baggage is horrible.  So, very very light.  Don't bring applicances (buy them there at monoprix).

Cheap and clean accomodation: 19th arrondissement at Belushi's or at Holiday Inn Express (on Rue Crimee).  It's near a metro and is VERY cheap.  It's also very new constructed to very very clean and organized.  But if you don't like Jews don't go there as it's in the Jewish district (lubavitchers).

Gare du Nord area is cheap BUT also: very dirty, a bit sketchy (lots of black/african people), and petty crime is a bit high there.

  2. The Paris Pass is usually not a good idea. It becomes a good buy only if you intend to race from one place to another taking only the very briefest moment to actually see anything.. Most people will find this an unsatisfying way to see Paris

Its a better plan to see fewer places but to do so at leisure.

My personal favorite hotel is the Hotel St. Andre des Arts. Its a very simple little hotel with few amenities but a wonderful location and a friendly staff. http://www.123france.co.uk/en/0/hotel-sa...

  3. I suggest you invest a little money in a decent guide book.  I like the Top Ten guides from Eyewitness.  They are small and inexpensive ($10) but VERY complete. It  will be much easier to plan your trip when you have a book with the sights, maps, transit routes.

There are tons of inexpensive hotels in central Paris.  So long as you are near a metro station you will be fine.  I suggest you check out http://www.Paris35.com/ for some reasonable rates.

    a few key tourists sites:

    Eiffel Tower

    Napoleon's Tomb

Paris Opera House (Marc Chagall murals)

    Tulierie Gardens and Louvre

    Champs Elysses

    Arc d'Triumphe
