I am starting a social science degree at uni in september, can anyone suggest some good reading material?

I am looking for some book reccomendations for some reading over the summer in advance of starting a degree course in september. All suggestions welcome.

I say read George Orwell books.

there r just too many such books.  easiest is to go to the library and at the soc sci shelf  - just pick one and start reading.  which area of soc sci will u be doing?
