  1. When you first begin pointe barre is usually en pointe,

    but the is flat.

after the teacher thinks your ankles are strong enough, you will dance en pointe the whole time.

  2. You prolly should take ballet with pointe, and you prolly should have ballet shoes.

  3. I think all of the girls at my studio take ballet and pointe. I think they have to.

  4. Most ballet classes when you first start pointe are half/majority of class in regular ballet shoes and the rest of class en pointe.

Pointe classes sometimes are in its own classes (immediately following regular ballet class usually), but it is usually required to take regular ballet class. Its required because regular ballet class strengthens your feet for pointe work. Otherwise, it's too dangerous.

Later on, after a few years en pointe, you might do a full pointe work in your classes, but even prepro divisions in many if not most dance studios still do regular ballet class.

  5. Pointe work is only tested in Majors, which are Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate etc. It is not tested in the RAD graded examinations, though. Yes, you'll need your soft shoes in majors, because pointe is only one section. Hope that helps(:
