  1. If they were to implode the Stratosphere and topple the tower it wouldn't hit anything that wouldn't be better off crushed.

  2. It is not the best are to walk at night.  NO it is NOT close to everything.

The closest other casino is the Sahara and that is a couple of blocks away and another short walk to the Riveria and Circus Circus.  All the other casinos are a lonnnnng walk.  The length of the Strip from Mandalay Bay to the Sahara is 4 miles.

    check www.lasvegasnow.com

  3. Stratosphere is ok but I think that other hotels have a better location. Excalibur or Monte Carlo e.g. are very well located. It is also possible to get these and other hotels for a good price if you are using promotion codes. I would check http://www.vegas-hotels-online.com for this.

  4. The hotel is safe, the area surrounding the Stratosphere is another story.  Don't go exploring in by yourself.  The Stratosphere is not close to anything cool.  In order to be close to the shopping and nightlife, try Ceasars', TI, and the Mirage.

  5. The property itself is safe and nice. Do not wander off the property at night though. It is not in the best part of town. It is not close to walk anywhere. You will have to take a cab or bus to the actual strip. Everything is so huge there that it appears you can walk to where ever you want in a few minutes but it is deceiving.

  6. true. as the first answer states. the stratosphere casino is between the strip and old las vegas so it is in a sort of no mans land, just across this wonderfull building are cut rate hotels that cater to the "seedy".-blurey

  7. nope not the best area to stay at, in the day okay at night watch out!

    nice, okay no the best

close to everything nope you have to a cab everywhere!

    have fun in vegas

  8. The Stratosphere is perfectly safe on the casino grounds. There is a bus service called "The Deuce" that is $5 for 24 hours. It drives directly to the front door and will take you up and down the strip. A bus comes at 7 or 8 minute intervals (less at night), and it runs 24 hours/day. There is some shows right in the hotel, and the tower next door has three different rides on top.

-I am telling you this up front in case you have non-refundable tickets. Your trip will not be a disaster, but it is not a very popular casino. The Stratosphere is located on the edge of the City of Las Vegas. All of the other casinos on the strip are outside of the city limits. The Stratsosphere was built to try and get some tax revenue into the city. Unfortunately, nearly every place in that neighborhood had become a brothel. They cleared a piece of land about ten years ago and built this casino, but most of the neighborhood is pretty shabby.

    - You are about a mile and a half from "The Wynn" which is where the newer casinos start. It's a long walk so you have to crowd on the bus.

    -------------------------

    - The Sahara Casino is a classic 1950's casino. The tower is about 700 yards from the tower of the Stratosphere (which doesn't seem like much). However, the feel of the Sahara is a little nicer and they often have the same prices.

The other option for an inexpensive room that is more centrally located is the Imperial Palace, which is on the harrah's website. The IP has  been headed for the wrecking ball for the last 3 years, but they keep delaying the plans. It keeps offering low cost rooms in the middle of the strip. With the downturn in gaming revenue they may decide to wait for a few more years.

  9. A few years ago the Strat was a hole and I think most people here would be warning you off, it has new owners have invested and its quite a nice place now. The location is its downfall its not in a good area (its the only Strip casino in Las Vegas the rest are in Clarke County) and you will spend money and time getting cabs up the Strip. Please do not travel on foot at night around the Strat I am a big fella have spent years competing in combat sports and instructing self defense and I would not walk around the Streets there at night. Going up the tower is a must and you get that free included in the resort fee you will have to pay at the Stratosphere, going up the tower to me is as important as seeing the fountains at Bellagio.

    Hope this helps

  10. As long as you stay on the property or Las Vegas Strip you will be just find. The area west of the Stratosphere and East of the Interstate is not the best neighborhood. The rest of the strip is south. It is in easy access by taxi, bus or the trolley. I personally recommend the troll, but the bus is not expensive either.

  11. I've stayed at the Strat twice. Here are my thoughts:

I felt safe there, but it is in a questionable area, especially a little farther north of the hotel. If you are renting a car, you'll feel very safe because you can just drive right into the parking garage and not worry about it.

It's a nice hotel, but nothing fancy. The rooms are of average quality, and it's clean and easy to get around (for a Vegas hotel/casino).

It's not really close to everything. It's pretty far north on the Strip, but if you rent a car, you can get to everything easily. Drive around the Strip early in the morning or late, late at night to avoid Strip traffic. And, if you must drive during the day or early evening, try Paradise Road, Industrial Road, or I-15 to get to your destination and avoid traffic.

I liked the Strat... good, cheap place to stay, good gambling (good blackjack rules and low-limit craps tables), and the view from the Tower is spectacular.

Good luck and have a blast!!

    Mike

  12. The Stratosphere is considered to be on the 'strip,' but it's the furthest down of the luxury hotels.  The grounds are nice, but I would not walk around there at night by myself.

You can walk to the more populated part of the strip, but I would advise you to walk in a group (at night) as there are a lot of pan-handlers, beggars, and shady-people in that area.  It is not a horrible walk, but wear comfortable shoes.

The below link is a map of the strip - at the top is where the Stratosphere Hotel is and you can get a better idea of where the rest of the hotels are.

    http://www.lasvegasmaps.com/stripmap.htm...

There is a monorail that you can take that goes from one end of the strip to the other (http://www.vegas.com/transportation/mono... but it does not go as far down as the Stratosphere.

If you see someone approach you in a Tahiti Village shirt - walk away- they are trying to sell you a timeshare.  They are all over the strip and in the casinos.  They'll offer you discount tickets to a show, but in turn you have to sit through a 3-hour tour of their timeshare.

Have fun - there is a TON to do in Vegas even if you don't like to gamble.

  13. I don't like the Stratosphere simply because it's too far from everything and the area around the hotel is not that safe. For the same price as Stratosphere, you can get a room at the Excalibur, Monte Carlo or Imperial Palace and be closer to center strip.

  14. The Stratosphere itself is nice. Nothing fancy as far as Las Vegas hotel/casinos go. They have some of the cheapest rates for a Strip hotel/casino/resort. But, frankly, if you can cancel without paying a penalty... I would recommend doing so. For a few reasons.

Yes, the Stratosphere is "On the Strip". But it's at the very top end of the Strip, which is a horrible place. Very unsafe and not at all "close to anything".

For the money... Better locations can be had for not too much more/sometimes less. Plus a better location will save you on transport a bit, since you can walk at night without too much worry. Excalibur, Luxor, New York New York, and even Hooters (if you can get over the name) all offer better value and location.

A great site to check out to help plan your trip is Rate Vegas. Check out the "Ask the Vegas experts" section.

  15. From the Strat to the rest of the strip, is a safe place only during the day.  I would only travel by cab or shuttle from the strat at night.

  16. I didn't stay there, but we did go there, and it seemed ok.  Be sure to either take the deuce or the monorail if you want to go to the opposite end of the strip though, because the stratosphere is quite a walk from some of the other things to see/do on the strip.  I beleive you can buy advance tickets for both online, or if not the monorail is only like $5 bucks for 24 hours I think.  I didn't ride the duece so I couldnt tell ya about that one.
