I am a freshman in high school now in a small town in Connecticut. For a year now i am really wanting to go to a foreign country and live with a family through an exchange program in my junior year. I have taken 2 years of Spanish and really want to become fluent and learn the Spanish culture. So i am leaning towards Spain, but where in Spain should i go? And if you happen to have done one yourself i am kind of(a lot) worried about becoming horribly homesick, so personal experiances??

  1. Check out this site: it's got lots of international schools that may accept you as an exchange student:

    http://spain.english-schools.org/

My personal experience makes me recommend you the American School of Barcelona because it's a small, homely school and it's in one of the most amazing cities in Spain.

You'll feel like at home in there!

  2. Yes do it!  I used AFS (American field service) and I didn't get to choose my country, but it was a great experience (Portugal) I went my Jr year of High School.

I believe no matter where you go you will pick up the language quickly (I didn't know any portugese before I went but left there speaking fluently).

AFS has a good program, I recommend them.

I also studied abroad in College to Mexico and Russia.  I love every minute of my travels.
