I am stuck on Marvel Ultimate Alliance for Wii...

Question

I am in Act 2 on the fairgrounds. I have completed everything including the pit arcade game up to this point. I have gotten the hammer to hit the strength bell on the fairgrounds. I have hit it MANY times different ways with different characters. There is a power bar on it but no red power in it. What am I doing wrong? I can't seem to hit it to get the gate down. I am in the easy mode.

You have to hit it with the hammer as hard as you can. By that, I mean hold a to do a charged attack with the hammer. The character you use is irrelevant.
