  1. Go to the welfare office and ask for general assistence. Tell them you just want to get back home and don't really want to get assistance from them unless you have to. Tell them you would likemoney to get back home. They will then screen you for eligibility. There are rules to this that I won't discuss but this is probably your best bet unless you have a job in the state you are trying to get back to. If so, call your employer and see if they can wire you an advance of your next paycheck.

  2. I am sorry to hear what a horrible bind you are in. But I will say your post  reads suspiciously like you are attempting to scam some money off a potentially kind hearted poster from this board.

You insinuated you are living in your car now, yet still find a way to post your question?

Selling the computer you are using was a great idea posted by Graham.

And if you really want help, the kind to help yourself why would you not put your location so other posters can help you locate resources in the area you are in?

If I were in your position I would go to a temp employment agency such as Labor Ready and get a few days work to raise enough gas money to get home.

Many states also have a one time, once during your life welfare cash program (a couple hundred bucks) designed for emergencies like the one you say you are in,  but you didn't even tell us what state you are in.

If your post is legitimate then I apologize in advance for stating my doubts. I wouldn't want to make you feel worse.

In case you really are in this bind here are a few crucial tips.

Make a plan, don't waste gas driving around aimlessly.

For example don't drive to the temp employment agencies call them first and explain what bind you are in.  Call the salvation army, they might be able to put you to work for a few days as well. Use the phone and internet whenever possible to do the foot work.

You can also get the local paper and call local landscape and construction companies to see if they need any help for a couple days, again be honest about the bind you are in.

People tend to be much more compassionate when it is apparent you are wiling to do the work on your end to help yourself and don't act like you deserve some sort of free bailout because of your bad luck. Sitting around posting "What should I do" certainly isn't going to get you back home.

Don't feel overwhelmed, stay calm and make a plan. The longer you procrastinate the worse off you will be. You will run out of food and gas. Think of this as a great story in the making to tell about perseverance and the creativity you mustered to get yourself out of this c**p sandwich of a situation.
