  1. I know some odd bits of German as I grew up around a German-American community, but as I haven't used it in ages, most of it is gone. You just have to practice as much as possible, try listening to German movies and music to get familiar with it in regular speech...it can help.. Finding a native speaker who is willing to let you practice is a godsend if you can locate one. Research your area to check or German immigrant populations - you can just check restaurant listings and look for a cluster of German ones/businesses and go from there. Where there is good German food, there are native speaking German people. At the least you can eavesdrop and practice that way

You can always try the Rosetta stone home  courses to get a feel for the pronunciation and grammatical structure.

  2. It's a difficult language to learn. I would suggest looking for a German television channel and see if you can download some simple children's programmes first, that you can see over and over, that will help your ear get used to the sounds.

  3. As with learning any language, I recommend doing the following (it worked for me):

Find a pen friend who speaks German and/or a native speaker in your own country who is willing to help you.

Watch German TV/Video, listen to German radio, visit German web sites, read German newspapers/magazines/books. Make sure you have a good dictionary and grammar book handy. Look up any words or phrases you don't know and make a note of them.

Visit a German speaking country if you can, even if it's only for a short while. The longer you can stay, the better, e.g. get a job there if you can.

    Remember, practice makes perfect...

    Good Luck

  4. ich speike duetsch gern or something like that

  5. I went to the lbrary and burned the Pimsluer CDs to my mp3 player

  6. The best and most exciting way to learn a foreign language is to visit a country that use it!

I visited Germany last year and although I was only there for a week or 2, I learnt far more than I had learnt back here in Australia over years and years or practicing from books and in classes.

You learn a lot faster because you become surrounded by the language. TV, radio, advertisements, everywhere you go. So that's my top recommendation.

Otherwise you could maybe get a German penpal or epal, and watch lots of German films with subtitles in your first language cause that helps a lot too I think.

    Good luck!
