I am suppose to be getting a tax rebate but i owe the unemployment agency some money, will they take it?

  1. My semi-educated guess says yes, they will take what is owed to them.

I am going to say no.  Unemployment is state and the only things that I know the IRS receives notice on is child support and state income tax debts.  You can visit the IRS web site at www.irs.gov and check to see where your Stimulus Check is, or telephone the IRS at (800) 829-1040 and ask your question directly to them.  Hope this helps.

  3. If the state unemployment agency has filed a form with the IRS stating that you owe them money, and they want to tap into any refunds the IRS may givve you, then they will get the rebate.

    If they have not filed any papers with the IRS, then the IRS will not know about the money you owe unemployment, so they will send the rebate to you.
