I am supposed to use the leaves of my cauliflower plant to cover the head, yet they are not big enough...?

  1. The reason for doing this is to prevent sunlight from reaching the heads so they become pure white. Use anything that will withstand rain and not allow the sun to reach the heads.

    That is a method used by some commercial growers to improve the looks of the cauliflower. You really don't need to unless you want it super white. We never did, we usually ate it right away unless we were going to put some in the freezer.

    To get those prized white heads of cauliflower, commercial growers practice a method called 'blanching'. When small white cauliflower heads become visible through the leaves, gather the outer leaves over the head and tie them in place with a string, twine, or large rubber band.

  4. pull off one from underneath and use it like a lid on a teapot.. center it on the head and then bring the other leaves up and around....

  5. I've heard about paper bags but have never tried it.
