  1. There may or may not be power available at your seat. You can find out if there is (and, if so, which of the three types of power outlets) at www.seatguru.com. You have to know the airline, the aircraft type, and your seat.

  2. no you do not need one

    - carpe deim

  3. No jacks ... it has to be battery operated ...

  4. Not all airplanes have power jacks, and those that have them don't always have them on all seats. You're usually better off in first class or in front rows.

    Start here:

    http://www.seatguru.com/

Find your airline and particular aircraft, it will show you a chart of seats on that aircraft for most major airlines. Then see if the seats you're getting have power in the first place. Or maybe see which ones you want to grab when you check in online, exactly 24 hours before the flight (or else good seats will be gone).

If you're lucky, then get an adapter and/or inverter. Something like this:

    http://www.amazon.com/PowerLine-100-Watt...

(you don't have to get that specific one).

If you look at the picture Amazon shows: the thing on the right is an adapter that converts from airplane style jack to car cigarette lighter jack. The planes have same 12V power as your car, so if your DVD player comes with car adapter, you're done. If not, you also need the second piece, that's shown on the left of the picture. It will convert the 12V DC power into 110V AC, so that you can plug your DVD player directly into it.

If you need it fast - check Radioshack, they should have plenty of that kind of stuff for sale. Usually at higher prices than you can get it online though.

Enjoy your flight (and a movie),

    LEM.
