What can I do to improve myself. It seems like I don't have much coordination and flexibility. I know how I can fix the flexibility problem, but how do I improve my coordination? I'm having a hard time learning how to do a forward roll, backwards roll, and several takedown moves.

  1. Some people learn faster than others don't base your training on someone else's pace or how fast they learn.

Some people can learn moves and techniques in a few tries. while others need to do it over and over... but i have learned that when you have to work hard for something you value it more and do surprisingly well with what you learn.

The fact that you have humbled yourself to be taught means that if you stick with it, you will learn those things eventually too.

Remember it's not only you, most beginners have that problem except for a few exceptions. Practice practice and practice...

  2. Well this answer's kind of simple and kind of not, but here it goes any way.  Practice for one over and over and over and over.  Then you can always get a double end punching bag ( a small medicine ball sized one ) to help improve hand-eye coordination.  This one will sound stupid I know, but it really works well. Go to a super market and pick up one of those "super bouncing balls" that you can find in one of those quarter type gum ball machines.  Buy a couple of those and take them home and play "hand ball" with them against the wall.  You can also take up the nun-chucks and begin forming better coordination with both hands with the chucks.  Slap box with your friends, or maybe your dog ( if you have one ).  The most important thing about coordination is that you controll the out come of not only your own move, but the moves of your opponent as well.  Coordination takes tons of practice and effort.  Don't get frustrated when things aren't working out fast enough. Stick with it whether it's a double end punching bag or a "super bouncy ball".  If you can vision your self doing it then mimic what you see in your imagination.  Roll around on the floor backwards and forwards quickly without putting too much thought into it and see if that doesn't help things a whole lot.  Like with anything though practice makes perfect.  Keep praticing and never get frustrated coordination will come in due time.

  3. do a forward roll over and over on your day off.ALL DAY!then next day off do backward roll.ALL DAY!if your not willing to do that then realize trhat martial arts is not meant for everyone.and if someone tells you that, they just want your $$$$$

  4. You go to a dojo to be taught, speak to your teachers & they'll work something out with you.
