this is my first time taking horse lessons. I want to know the horse before I get to do anything else. I took special Olympics in 1998 and I thin I won a ribbon there I don;t remember. now years later I really afraid because I don't want any errors. what can I do not get scared? I was thinking of owning a horse soon. I grew up with horses though. do you think I should own a horse or just lease it? thanks for your answers...

  1. The most important thing to remember is to just relax.  Don't worry about making errors.  You will because everyone does.  That's why you are taking lessons.  The teacher's job is to teach you the correct way to do something.  Everyone learns in different ways and different speeds, so don't get discouraged.  Go to the barn early to meet the horse you will ride and the lesson teacher.  Tell him/her that you are nervous and what you are nervous about.  You'll be fine and just remember that you are there to have fun!  I would take the lessons for a while before purchasing or leasing a horse.  Think about it when you're more comfortable with your lessons.

  2. Have fun ...and If you can find a horse that makes you happy and not afraid.  See if you can lease it for a month before you buy.  Take all the of the responsibilities of  the horse to see if you are o.k. with it.The Feeding, watering, the Vet, and horseshoer  Horses are expensive I have 5

  3. I agree with Maeko, Matthew- the important thing is just to relax and have fun, and not worry about making mistakes. I don't recommend getting a horse of your own until you have had a chance to take more lessons and get really comfortable with riding. Horses are also expensive to buy and keep- and they require lots of hard work to care for. I know what I am talking about, because I live on a farm with 11 of them right now. I also am a riding instructor, just like your coach is, and I have been riding and working with horses for most of my adult life. Once you are really comfortable riding and being around horses again, you might ask your coach about leasing one- and ask him or her to help you find a horse that's right for you. Not all horses can be ridden by all people- the match has to be right, or things won't work out.

Good luck, and have fun !! You'll be just fine.
