  1. It depends on how you like to travel. Personally, tours don't give you enough time at stops to see everything and enjoy it. If you drive yourself, you can come and go as you please, spending as much or as little time at a site. Also, you might have some funny events happen as you drive, and those things will bring you and your mother closer together. My mother and I have been six times, and funny little things would happen to us, and we still talk about those things and laugh when we remember them. Tours are good if you don't feel like you can handle driving in another country. All of your lodging would be pre-booked. If you drive yourself, I suggest staying at B&B's. They are very friendly and helpful, and they will call ahead another B&B for your next night's stay if you ask. Just have the phone number. Do some extensive research before you go.

  2. If you're going to be in the West, especially Co. Galway, I reccomend O'Neachtains tours. Its cheap, day trip bus tours that will do areas like Connemara or the Burren. Interesting and fun, and hits lots of spots.

  3. You could combine driving and tours.

But definitely you will need a car - the public transport is of a v. low standard, & practically non-existant in rural areas.

You don't really want to be rushing back to the bus when you poor mum hasn't even finished her cuppa!

  4. If you want an organized tour try www.trafalgar.com

They take of everything and they get you around the whole western side of the Ireland.

  5. drive.

u can go to wherever & whenever u want to go.

u can stop at wherever & whenever u want to stop.

Which i think u cant do that on a tour.

self managed free & easy tour is always the way to travel.

a cab driver in arran gave me this advice- 'go wherever u want to go. don't listen to people who say go here, dont go there etc. just go & enjoy everytime u are there'

    i did just that.

  6. I went on a tour in october but we used C.I.E. tours they have some very nice packages and quiet a few older people were on my tour. they are also very informative as the tour stops in many different places. they do wonderful tours.
