On my Network and Internet connections, i have 3 different types of thingies.

1. Broadband

-under this is 'My ISP' - which is 'disconnected', 'firewalled', and 'grayed out'.

2. Internet Connection

-It says 'Internet connection - Enabled' [sometimes missing]

3. LAN or high-speed Internet

-Here lies '1394 Connection - enabled 1394 net adapter'

-'Local area connection - enabled'

what are all of these and which one does my internet connection rely on?! i want to configure it to admit xbox live!

  1. The 1394 connection is firewire not the connection you need.  It appears that you do not have an network connection available.  You need to check in your device manager to see if the network adapter is installed Right click on My Computer and select properties then go to the hardware tab and select device manager to see if a network adapter is installed.

  2. You don't connect your X-Box to your computer, you connect it to the internet.  As long as the computer is connected to the internet it doesn't matter which connection is doing it.  If you have a modem with just one connection, you'll need a router so that you can connect more than one computer to the internet at a time (the X-Box is a computer).  Or just keep switching the cable back and forth between the computer and the X-Box if you prefer.

As far as what your computer calls your internet connection, it depends on which version of which operating system you're running.  I assume Windows, but Vista or XP?
