If you are wearing a strapless dress I think you should wear it half up and half down in curls.  If you are wearing a halter top dress all the hair up.

I'd go online and look at different styles, choose a few that you like, then ask your mom which one she likes best. Also keep in mind weather or not you'll be going to a professional stylist or trying to do it yourself on the big day.
