Anyone out there who knows or is a hairdresser? How would I go to school for it, what is the price I might be looking at for getting my hairdresser's license? Also, I saw a average salary for a hairdresser is $18,250. Would that be including there tips?

  1. I'm not a hairdresser but I do know that the best way to go about doing it is definitely not a trade school.  Find a Junior or Community college that offers it.  You end up with the same degree and the trade schools are usually half the time and double the price.  However many people won't hire you once they find out you just learned to cut hair.  True places will but any high end salon where you can charge $50 for a haircut simply will not.  Depending on what kind of place you can get hired at, find a place where you are in independent contractor and pay rent for your station.  You can charge whatever you want (within reason for the salon) and just pay monthly to the salon owner.  It's not like working for some places where you get paid minimum wage and then split your tips.  Speaking of tips it varies.  Some people give you a couple of bucks but I pay my stylist an absolute MINIMUM of 20% but usually closer to 50% and if I am so in love with it I can't stand it I give her 100%.  My cut and color come to $150 with her 'discount' because I have been going to her for 15 years.  The 'rule' is to tip 20% as you would at a restaurant but many people just do the $5 tip for everything.  It can be a good industry to get into seeing as how people need haircuts and can't just go with out them so go ahead but do it the right way!

  2. I know one hairdresser who will cut your ear and say he didn't do that on purpose if you don't say what he wants

  3. Have you ever thought about being a makeup artist? Doing photo shoots, working on set at a theatre, or doing weddings?

Check out my website and tell me what you think?

There are three trainings that are $50 per session and you would be working for your self earning and keeping the profits.
