  1. I have been looking for a new HD tv as well.  From what I've read and heard at electronic stores, lcd's are great for video games because there is no chance of burn-in (a fixed image on the screen that leaves a permanent "stain") as there is with plasma, though many plasmas have a feature that greatly reduces the risk.  If you're going to be using the tv primarily for video games, you'll probably want the highest resolution: 1080p.  BUT, some people claim you can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on screens smaller than 40 inches (or is it 50?).  You will definitely save money going with 720p.

Plasmas on the other hand, from what I've seen in stores have a slightly better, more realistic looking picture with deeper blacks.

All of this said, it really comes down to what looks the best to you when you're standing in the store.  For me, most of the TV's, be it plasma or lcd looked very similar if not identical.  Consumer reports touts Panasonic, Sony and Samsung as top brands, but a couple Toshibas looked top notch where I went (Video Only in San Francisco).

Another tip:  If you can shop for a tv on a weekday when there's much less competetion to speak with a salesperson.  I did and got most of my questions answered.  If you don't agree with one salesperson another one will probably have a slightly different opinion.

Lastly, don't just take my word for it; check out these other info sources:

    consumerreports.com (helps if you subscribe)

    cnet.com

Hope some of this helps...happy hunting!

  2. you don't have to spend all your money on a plasma Tv

so what if you have an extra 10cm in your lounge room, what are you going to do with it gymnastics!?

well i guess with the money that you save by not buying a plasma you could get a few good DVD's to watch on it... or a gymnastics leotard!

  3. I have a 26inch LG LCD HDTV that gets 1080i.  Works like a charm with my XBox 360 Elite, HD DVD player, HD Tuner, iPod and my computer (its cool playing WoW on a screen like that!).
