Hello, I was thinking about getting an earring and I was reading all about them and the possible infections that can occur during the healing process. So I just wanted to know, what is the possibility of my ear getting infected. And if there is a way, how could I prevent it from happening.

  1. Are you going to a studio or just an accessory shop (Walmart, Claries?) either way, I've had my ears pierced 5 times in one and six in the other and they've never been infected. I just clean them with the earring solution they give you a few times a day (if they don't give you any then you can buy it at Claires or Walmart). If you keep it clean, it's almost impossible to have it infected.

  2. It depends on where on your ear you are getting pierced. If your getting your lobes done there is a very little chance that you will get an infection. I have EXTREMELY sensitive ears and can only have titanium, white gold, or gold earrings, but I am a very rare case. If you take good care of your piercing I would see no reason to get an infection (unless you are like me, and your body rejects surgical steel). If you are getting it done by someone (claires, piercing parlor) they will give you a cleansing solution. USE IT. 3 times a day (at least) and make sure (WITH CLEAN HANDS) you are rotating your earring gently to prevent it from sticking. You shouldn't change your earring for at least 6 months after the piercing so your body can properly heal and less chance that you are putting something dirty into an open wound. Thats basically it for lobe piercings. Cartillages are a little more complicated and if thats what your getting feel free to let me know, and I would be glad to tell you what I know about them. =)

  3. Follow the instruction you would get from the person who did the piercing.
