I just got done from a visit to Montreal and entirely fell in love with the city. I plan to maybe move when I finish school in about a year to a year and some months. Is it difficult for Americans to move to Montreal, let alone get decent jobs? I will of course learn French. I mostly mean as far as immigration issues are concerned.

  2. Moving is never very easy, but I don't think it should be too difficult. There are many American's here.

As for jobs, depends what you want to do. There are many jobs in customer service for example. Need to know more details about your profession to give you an advice. Unless you work under the table, you need a work permit. You should consult the Quebec immigration website for info on immigration issues.

French is important, but in some cases, you can get a job without it. Again depends what you do.

Otherwise, there are plenty resources in Montreal for immigrants and for citizens in general.

  3. since youre young, it wont be hard, but you would have to get residency, which can take a while, and learn french because unless youre in the western part of the island, you will need to know it, most places hire if you speak some french but it all depends on what you go for.

  4. Yes, it's difficult for Americans to get a work permit in Canada.  It would probably be easier if you have some type of unique job skill.  It would be a good idea for you to check the Canadian government website to see what their immigration laws are.
