I am thinking about starting a site called find me a ride?

Question

The purpose is to aid people who do not have cars in sharing a ride with people who do. Of course they would need to share the cost. Do you thnk I could make any money at this? Is it a needed resource?I could offer background checks for long rides or just links for people to use like that. Mostly because there are so many people in LA that drive alone.

The best way to make money online is to create tools for others to do the work... think about ebay.  They don't handle the merchandise, they only provide a place to list it.  Set up the page to require minimal involvement on your part and figure out how you want to make money - from the people who use the site, or possibly from ad space.

if you are looking to make money off of it, I might think it will be hard... possible revenue I see is if the website is successful and popular, you might be able to get advertisement deals. Since the point of the website is to bring people together to save money, I doubt they want to shell out money using the website meant to save them money...

your business sounds similar along the lines of couch surfing. Just couches instead of cars and they run like a vet system to make sure people are legit too. Look it up if you are interested =)
