  4. You are in a great area to homeschool. We just moved to GA from Tacoma and I miss it so much!

Now, to clarify...you do realize that HOMEschooling and UNschooling are different right??? If not, then homeschooling is schooling done at home and unschooling is a way to homeschool. Many people succeed at unschooling, I tried it with my children but realized it didn't work out so well. We now use eclectic homeschooling, a combination of different methods of homeschooling, and my children are doing great. I will list some sites where you can look over the different types of homeschooling. I would suggest looking them over then deciding which works best for you! Good luck and you can email me if you wish. Oh, one more thing.....my kids got to take courses at the public school if we weren't comfortable teaching the subject.....that was Tacoma so not sure if where you are is different. Again...good luck!

  8. Well, I'm both homeschooled and unschooled.

I'm homeschooled because I use a private homeschool that sends me my books and keeps track of my grades.  I spend 2 hours a day doing this.

I'm unschooled because 90% of my day is focused on music.  I play alto sax and now learning to play the violin.  The rest of my day is music based.  I do music theory for violin and general music.  I hope to soon start music theory for jazz.

I'm also unschooled because I pick the material that I want to learn and teach it to myself.  My parents are there for me when I have questions.  I do independent study, which means that I teach myself my daily lessons.  If I am stuck on a question, like for math, I'll have my mom explain it to me step by step.  Other than that, I do it myself.

It's possible to both homeschool and unschool at the same time.  I do it and it really works out for me.

The school I use is Penn Foster High School www.pennfoster.edu click on the High school Program.  It's $900 for all four years of school.  If you already have credits you can transfer them to the school and your tuition will be a lot less.

If you don't want to use a private homeschool you can always use these links.  I'll explain...

www.k12.com Check to see if your state offers an online public school.  You'll still be considered homeschooled because you will do all of your classes online from your home.  Also, it's free because the state funds it.

    - If your state does not have an online virtual school it's ok.  Go to www.flvs.net It's an online virtual school based in Florida, but they accept students from all over the world.  Also, with flvs.net you will have a teacher for each class that you have signed up for.

Another way to homeschool is by using www.connectionsacadey.com  See if your state offers an online charter school.  This is also free because the state would pay for it.  This works like the virtual schools.  The charter schools will usually provide computer or laptop/internet connection/supplies.

If you don't want to use online schools try searching for correspondence schools.

If you don't want to use a type of school, like online or correspondence schools, you can always just use regular school books.  Like workbooks/textbooks.  Or even cd's that are for homeschoolers that you can put into your computer and follow along with.  Some people use special programs that teach you with dvd's.

    This is VERY IMPORTANT:

Make sure to register as a homeschooler in your state....go to www.hslda.org to view how to legally homeschool in your state.  Also, while you are on the site, check the information about what you would be required to do as a homeschooler.  Some states usually reqire you to take the state test and sometimes they require you to do 4 hours of homeshooling.  It's different for every state, so make sure to check the laws for homeschooling in your state.

  9. I have homeschooled both my sons and three of my grandsons. If your parents would like to ask me any questions, I would be glad to help.

If you need a homeschooled pen pal, see the links below.

To succeed at homeschooling, you will want to learn how to use the search functions.

  10. I'm home-schooled, but I don't live in WA, so I don't know, I might see if you are on, but, I'll wait until you get out of regular school,
