It's hard to find out from their website as it is directed to customers rather than potential employees. I have an interview for a training contract soon and do not want to sound like I haven't researched, so really I just want to know what type of legal work council legal departments carry out, or any genearl information.

  1. They would handle a wide variety of work - law suits against individual departments (Education, Social Services, Benefits, etc) within the council either by employees, council tax payers, irate creditors, personal injury claims brought by members of the public.

For instance within the sections that deal with Education - the Education Welfare (deal with school attendance) section may bring parents to court for non-attendance by their children at school, the Special Educational Needs section may seek advice on Tribunal matters.  Individual employees might bring constructive dismissal, unfair dismissal cases against the Council.

  2. Their legal work is all about harassing poor council tax payers who can't afford to keep up with their payments.  Unless you have problems getting a role with high street solicitors, council jobs should be used as a stepping stone to better prospects else where.

  3. I'm not too sure I did legal at college, but you're better off looking on google or something, type it in, should come up with something.
