  1. Teachers make an Average salary not to little not to much, but they have a really good lifestyle I say go for it but if you want to make a lot of money you are going to want to get a masters degree in teaching then you will get more money than an average teacher

    Please give me best answer

  2. I teach in the US. Starting teacher salaries range in the US.  Some rural areas may start teachers at 27K or 28K.  Some areas including urban areas can start at 40K.  Here in the US it is important to remember that with each year of experience your pay increases.  Also your salary increases with advanced degrees.  Some school districts will give you a pay raise at BA, or BS + 15 hours of grad work, then BS + 24 hours then Masters and so on.  There is a national move by the NEA to pass legislation that would mandate that all teachers start at 40K. Teacher's start off with low pay, but after 20 years of teaching you can make 75K a year.  I work with a teacher that has been teaching 25 years, and she makes 80K a year but she also has a Master's plus 30 hours of additional grad coursework.  I have been teaching 4 years I just completed my Masters and make 52K a year in Chicago.

  3. I don't know about Canada.  In New York State, teachers are required to get a Master's degree for permanent certification.  Salaries are quite good in the Long Island area; not as good in New York City.  Don't know about upstate.

BUT, anyone who thinks it's an easy job should look for another line of work.  All people see are summers off and what looks like short hours.  They don't see the work that gets taken home, and if they think it's hard to deal with their own kids all day, they should try doing it with 25-30 students who have no respect for them.  Never mind dealing with administrators who will support the students and parents before they will even listen to the teachers' side.

I hope it's different in Canada.  It probably is.  But don't choose this profession because of the salary.  Don't choose ANY profession based solely on money.  That's always a disaster.

Jon L:  Yes, private schools pay MUCH less, but they are not getting the Federal and State funds that public schools get.  And, frankly, despite what people claim, except in the very posh schools, I don't think the education is better because they don't have to meet as many state regulations.  Also, experienced teachers jump ship to public schools to make more money, so they tend to have a young, inexperienced staff, or older teachers who weren't good enough for public schools.  There are, of course, the dedicated few who stay because they love it and feel what they are doing there is important.

  4. It depends on what type of education you get into.  A masters degree ensures a higher starying pay rate.  I believe the average pay for a teacher these days is around $35,000 yearly.  If you decide to teach ESE or Autism you can make $38,000-$40,000 but not without your masters.

My mother has been an Autism teacher for the last 2 years, making just under $40k currently, but she has her masters.

Also, public school teachers are paid higher starting salaries than private school teachers (which is a joke if you think about the income private schools bring in).

Now remember, I'm speaking of American related teaching, in British Columbia it could be very different.

  5. How much you can make as a teacher generally depends on what grade you teach and how much training you have.  In BC, you can expect to start at about $38,000 a year with a 4 year degree.  If you continue at the same school and never get additional formal training, you will probably top out at about $57,000.

With a 6 year degree, you can start at around $46,000 and top out at about $71,000 a year.
