I don't need a lot of power, but enough to be comfortable on the road. I would like to get reasonable fuel economy, with good reliability. Any good answers out there? Thanks for your time!

  1. suzuki 800 boulevard cruiser

  2. If you have experience, I can suggest the 750 Shadow. Nice ride, plenty of power to get out of the way, and very easy on the pocket at the pumps. Somewhere around 54 hp and 58 mpg. Mine is a dream on the road.

Did I mention it handles good?

  3. I suggest the Honda Shadow 750, or the Yamaha V Star 650 or 1100cc.

The Honda Shadow is a simple, reliable bike, plenty of power, good fuel economy.

The Yamaha 650 V Star has slightly less power, its air cooled, but its very reliable with a rock solid engine.

The Yamaha 1100 V Star is a bike that you can ride a passenger over a long distance comfortably

The Cruiser Bikes to avoid are the Suzuki Boulevard family of 800 cc twins, the S50, M50 and C50, these bikes are troublesome with EFI and electrical problems and made generic, the other small cruiser to avoid is the Honda VT600, its very slow and underpowered with only a 4 speed transmission.

Also avoid the HD883 and 1200 Sportsters, high priced and severe engine overheating problems, slow and heavy and hard to ride

  4. people who has 1100cc or more will say a honda shadow 750cc is underpowered. Go with what you like.

I would suggest go for a honda rebel if a 250cc is okay for you. a lot of people will say it is under powered. But it gives 65mpg if not more. easy on your wallet. A new Rebel cost only $3199.

consider the difference and also the diff in sales tax + insurance you would pay. Better buy a like new used for about $3k . it will have no destination charge etc etc typical of a new vehicle. Cheaper to insure too. Drive it for 2 years and then move up if you feel underpowered. By that time you would have better driving skills and also the insurance on a bigger vehicle would be low bcoz you would have a 2 yr driving history.

Also you wont loose much when selling the old one bcoz rebel holds its value pretty good and looking at gas prices a lot of people will consider buying motorcycle in a few years and there would be a good demand for beginner bikes like REBEL.

  5. Any of the japanese bikes in the 750-800 clas should serve you well. The Suzuki C50 would be my choice . Very reliable electronic ignition , water cooled , and shaft drive . Floor boards with heel n toe shifter . And also nice 2 tone paint  . Cruiser Magazine `s pick of the best in this class of bike .

  6. To me a cruiser is a V-twin with the laid back classic cruiser look.

These bikes are engineered for a look and sacrifice alot of performance to that goal.  Look at some of the non cruisers for better performance for less money.

    Here are just a few.

    Triumph Boniville classic design

Suzuki Drz 400s dual sport or super moto

Suzuki v-storm 650   Best value of the bunch.

    Honda 600f naked bike

Ducati monster cool looking beginner bike
