  1. The big question here is how structured you want your cruise to be.  All the other major cruise lines (Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Princess, and Carnival) have "assigned" dining times and various dress codes for dinner (formal nights, semi-formal nights, casual nights, etc.), where NCL has "Freestyle" dining. In other words, they have 4-8 restauants for you to choose from, and you eat when, where, and with whom you want - and dress as casual as you please. Another aspect of NCL, is that they have - very quietly over the past few years, been building many new ships. They have a pretty young fleet.

I don't know where you live, but here's some additional info for you to consider - a 7-night cruise from Florida will get you to Eastern Caribbean (my wife's favorite for shopping in St. Thomas) or Western Caribbean ports (generally more adventurious shore excursions). For a Southern Caribbean cruise (my favorite), you'll need to fly to San Juan. The decision here is that the airfare to San Juan is about $200-300 more per person than airfare to Florida. So your budget does come in to play in both departure city and cabin selection. A quick scale, from least expensive to most expensive cabin types is: Inside; Oceanview; Balcony; Suite. The best location for least motion is as close to mid-ship as possible - another factor that not too many people realize is that the higher decks have more motion than the lower decks.

Some final thoughts; 1) make sure you use a good travel agent; 2) ask your travel agent to price out "Celebrity Cruise Line" for you - they're a sister company to RCCL, and absolutely the best (our personal favorite!); and 3) remember that August - October is hurricane season in the Caribbean.

Have fun - planning is a big part of the enjoyment!

Bon Voyage and Happy New Year!

  2. Yes, and it was enjoyable and fun. I went around all of the Hawaiian Islands for a week. The cruise line offers good shore activities, rooms, food and service. Congrats and have fun!

  3. My husband and I love cruising.  There are many Norwegian Cruise Line ships.  They leave from different ports and go to different places.  I have been on the Norway, which is no longer in service.

She is a favorite ship of mine, and I am sorry to see her demise.

Are you going alone?  If so, it will cost you more.

Try the discount cruise agencies.  We have booked our last several cruises ourselves without the need for a travel agent, you might feel safer booking through a local agent.

Get a few brochures from the lines and look at them.  You can get a pretty good idea about the clientele the cruise line targets by their brochure.  I think Norwegian is a good choice for a first time younger cruiser.

    Have fun!

  4. I enjoyed Norwegian Free-Styling cruising from Boston to Bermuda. I would go on a cruise with them again any time.

  5. NCL is nice but the older ships are older and the cleanliness and the appearance werent as good but the newer ships are great from what i have heard. They go all over the caribbean and if you want to know about any cruise line or any ship check out cruisecritic.com and see what they say about that cruise line and what destinations are a must see etc and ahve fun and Bon Voyage and congradulations.

  6. never been on one, but ,you may want to look into some good health ins. or maybe some good life ins. before you go..

  7. Yes, I went on the cruise line for a week around the hawaiian islands. It was really fun and enjoyable.
