  1. You don't need any physical attributes, they can all be trained.

Of course, being gifted with above average body control or reflexes will help, but that goes for any sport.

You should be willing hit and get hit, though. Sounds silly, but it's not. For a lot of people it's surprisingly difficult to really hurt somebody they have no quarrel with. Likewise, lots of folks find out rather quickly that getting punched in the face is even worse, than they imagined.

These things can be hard to train. The technically best boxer at my gym has only ever done one real fight, because he didn't care for how tough it got.

  2. Great boxers enjoy hurting people.  Good boxers don't mind hurting people.  You have to not mind knocking someone cross-eyed.  You also need to be able to withstand punishment, both to the body and head.  That can be worked on, in part.  But there is also natural abilities in that regard.

  3. Things that are born with are punching power, hand speed, ability to take a punch and heart. If you do not have a good amount of these things it will be tough. You can always work on skill and technique, but heart might be most important, when you get hit you cant let it discourage you ,but it all starts in the gym you have to work hard if you want to be a good boxer

  4. the most important attribute for a new fighter is heart and determination. The learning curve is hard for anyone no matter how naturally athletic you are. A lot of the great fighters such as Thomas Hearns had no athletic ability and were considered useless when they started boxing.

The great thing about boxing is that it is 100% based on body mechanics and science. If you learn the proper technique you will learn to throw a punch hard and fast. You will find that you had attributes you never knew existed. But you have to be dedicated. You have to be willing to put the time in and the hard work.

Ive seen the most athletic people try boxing and quit after a few months. Ive seen kids who looked quite pathetic stick with it and become pretty good boxers. It all depends on you and your trainers ability to train you Correctly.

  5. everything can be worked on. go to a boxing gym and start to train hard and you will get better.
