i would take out of the list Nayarit....ill mayb choose Guanajuato, in chiapas ull have all wht u need and there r nice places 2 live like tuxtla or san cristobal de las casas but im used 2 bigger cities like guanajuato, Gto.

If you are either rich or retired with a steady income so you do not have to work...ok.  If you need to work...bad idea.  you can only get a work visa in Mexico if you can find a specific job and the employer will write a letter for immigration stating that he is giving you a job and that he cannot find a Mexican national for that job...very hard to do.  The work visa is directly connected to that job.  Wages are extremely low.  You would need to be highly skiled in a job area that needs workers.    So, before deciding on a place...this issue must be considered.  There are many great places to live in Mexico.  Need to decie if you want hot climate near beach, or cooler weather , in mountains.  Guanajuato is beautiful....Chiapas, very hot.  Just saw other answerers answer.  san Miguel de allende is a city for RICH gringos...if that is you , fine...if not, you would find you cannot afford to live there...it is a very "upper class " community.

if you have at least 1000 dollars a month, that's a good starting point...you can teach private english clases... it depends on you .. your abilities and skills...
