I am 20 and I passed my CBT on the 2nd june (1st time!) - I will admit i am a novice on motorbikes.

I will only be using the motorbike to get from home to college everyday and to see my friends on the weekend.

I am debating on purchasing either a Suzuki GZ Marauder 125cc or a Suzuki GSX 125cc & I don't know which one will be better for me to handle and maintain.

Any advice would be welcome

  1. I would look at a 250 I think you would be happier with it and it would be more manageable in traffic

  2. which one does have decent luggage options?

for an everyday commuter you will want lockable + waterproof luggage

    which one is more comfortable?

which one is 'more bike for the money'?

  3. a 125  is on the small side  if you are planning on going any distance to speak of, also if your are at all on the heavy side or ever plan on carrying a passenger!

I would suspect  you  would be a lot better off on at least a 250cc  bike!   The difference in the weight and size of the bike  would be pretty minor but it would be way better suited to do anything  more than around town  travel

  4. If it were me, I'd get the GSX. The Marauders are OK but those 125 custom style jobs become a bit tiresome after a while. They're good if you're a shortarse as they have a lower seat height but a tall chap can look a bit of a plonker on a miniature Harley lookalike.

As for performance and maintenance I doubt there's much between them. I'd guess the GSX will handle better if you like to chuck it around a bit whereas the Marauder is probably more suitable if you want to potter about on a big comfy seat and enjoy the ride.

  5. After riding for fifty years and owning several small motorcycles and scooters, I would save my money and buy a bike with a slightly larger engine displacement. Small, low horsepower motorcycles are dangerous in today's traffic. They also possess small tires with a small mating surface to the road, this can be dangerous on slippery, oily, or tarry surfaces.....Happy Biking, and remember, this is only a suggestion.

  6. Those two are pretty small bikes. Consider moving up to the 250 for a 1st bike. Road test the 125, then the 250.

  7. the CC's are the same so the only thing to consider is weight and comfort.  Make sure your arms are at a comfortable position and most importantly, make sure your can place your feet flat on the ground.

After that, it is a matter of which one you prefer.  I have been riding since 2001 and currently own a 2007 Yamaha R1.

    Ride Safe & Good Luck!
