  1. In Melbourne, it will still be quite cool at the end of August with a maximum temperature probably around 16C (60.8F) and a minimum in the vicinity of 7C (44.6F) , but Melbourne's weather is very variable and anything is possible. The best idea is to wear layers of clothing so you can add and discard as the weather changes. There's also a 50/50 chance that it will rain.

If you're in Melbourne on a weekend and are at all interested in sports, don't miss an Australian Rules football match at the MCG. It's an experience unique to Australia and the MCG is an awesome venue. Almost everyone in Melbourne is mad about the game and I guarantee that you'll have no trouble at all finding someone to go with who can explain what's happening.

If football doesn't appeal, explore the CBD taking in all the little laneways and arcades. I know that doesn't sound very exciting, but you'll love it. Melbourne is an exciting and beautiful city with an amazing vibrancy to it that visitors always enjoy.

  2. I can't speak for Melbourne, but Sydney is still fairly chilly in August. Bring warm clothes, but make sure you wear a decent top underneath your warm ones in case there's a warm snap. Although it iws cold, it can get warm in the sun. Sydney is full of great places to visit: The Aquarium and Chinatown are always a favourite for tourists, as well as a Bridge Climb or dinner on the rotating level of Centrepoint Tower. Another great thing to do is a ferry ride around the harbour. If you looking for a bit of cheeky fun, might I recommend Studs Afloat. I hope you enjoy your trip!

  3. its winter so its 59F or 15C, it gets pretty cold at night like real cold.
