  1. Hot (between 80-90 during the day).

The rainy season also starts in May.  So, lots of rain, usually later in the day or nighttime.

The temperature depends on your environment (mountains, highlands, coastal area), so check it out online too.

  2. This is a very small country on a very small isthmus of land between two great and wondrous oceans. Weather of all kinds flies over this spit of land and never stops. One minute it is beautiful and sunny, two minutes later it is rainy and cold, one minute later it is hot and sunny, ten minutes later it is misty and cloudy.

    Get the picture?

And that is in a single location. Down the road — a mere ten kilometers — it can be drastically different. How drastic?

Well, the city of Alajuela and the city of Heredia are 11 kilometers apart. December is the rainiest month of the year in Alajuela. December is the driest month of the year in Heredia.

Then there is the altitude. Travel 18 kilometers from San Jose to the airport, and you have arrived at an entirely different altitude, and that can mean a difference of 10-15 degrees in temperature.

From the cloud forest high in the hills at Monteverde you can look down and see the coast about 20 kilometers away that lines the great Pacific Ocean beyond. It is cold up there. It is very, very hot down there.

Chances are good that when you visit Costa Rica in May, you will experience beautiful weather — it is the very beginning of the "rainy" season. But "rainy" or "dry", we who live here pay little attention to "seasons."

  3. Go to www.wunderground.com to check monthly weather history for the different regions you want to go.  The weather also depends on where you are going.  It's never really going to be cold unless you are at a high elevation.  It's not considered a really rainy season...

  4. I have spent the May and June in Costa Rica since 1997.  The weather will depend on where you are.  Generally (always exceptions), if you are in the highlands (San Jose, Central Valley, Monteverde etc.), it will be in the mid to high 70s in the day and 60s at night.  It will generally be sunny in the morning and cloud up in early afternoon.  You should expect rain in the afternoons and evenings.  In the beach areas it is hotter and rain does not follow as regular of a pattern.  Unless there is a tropical depression in the area, you should still have plenty of sun in between showers.  May is not bad rain wise--the worst are August-October.

  6. Not for sure, but I bet it is pretty warm. You could go to google and type in weather in costa rica and it should pull up the yearly weather.
