  1. been there 2times just because i have family there what i can think of is just uses you mind u know what is safe or not i liked were we where

  2. I'm a repeat visitor to Germany, and honestly, compared to some other places in Europe, it's one of the safest.  The only advice I would give is the same as when traveling anywhere else:

    -pay attention to your surroundings;

    -don't flash a lot of cash;

    -a money belt or the like is always a good idea;

    -if you can't afford to lose it, either don't take it (i.e. expensive jewelry) or carry it with you at all times (e.g. your passport)

    -always keep an eye on your stuff; and

    -use your common sense-- if you wouldn't do it at home (like walking alone at night in a deserted area), it's probably not a bright idea to do it in Germany, either.  :o)

    One more piece of advice-- don't be so paranoid you don't have any fun!!

    Seriously, Germany is no more (or less) dangerous than the US-- in the cities, be on your guard a little, otherwise you should be fine.  Enjoy your trip!!

  3. Like all over the world, watch your pocket in airports, subways, buses. In general, it's safer then anywhere in the USA.

  4. Just do the same as you would in your own place. It is all about using your common sense.

  5. Im an aussie, and have been living in Gerrmany for 3.5 years.

    Commonsense!! Thats's all you need,..try to not look like a tourist, if you know what i mean,..safety is not really an issue in Germany. Gerrmans can be very"to the point", and serious. Try to make an effort to learn a few basic words, and courtesies, and you will find them more willing to help you. I love it here.  If you here towrads the end of Sept,..you MUST go to Munich for Oktoberfest!!

  6. to the previous poster....

    not all cops are bad here, I'd say the contrary is true. Compared to what I experienced in the US the german police is very cooperative and helpful.

    Safety is not an issue, unless you behave really stupid!

    Only region I would avoid as a foreigner (no matter from where) is rural eastern germany, but there's no point going there anyway.

    So have fun while here!

  7. germany is a very safe place keep your guard but dont worry

  9. Whenever you are a tourist, you are a target for petty criminals.  This is true all over the world. In Germany this will be no worse than it is in your home country - Germany is one of the best countries this way - but it is still true.

    So make sure you protect your travel documents (passport, air tickets), credit cards and cash.  I use a money belt- and I have never had a theft overseas.

    Personal safety is the same as in any developed country.  There are jerks everywhere, but chances are high you will be just fine.  Keep your wits about you, particularly at night, particularly in big cities, and you should be fine.

    Then just relax and enjoy.

  10. 1. Lock all of your bags. Buy small locks to keep all the zippers locked shut. This way no one can try to open up any of the zippers on your bag while you are not paying attention.

    2. Leave your valuables at home. What you bring with you on the train, on the plain, or while traveling can only get stolen. I have had my friend get his camera stolen at a youth hostel when he wasn't paying attention.

    3. If sleeping in a youth hostel, I like to sleep on my bag or lock it to myself. This method works well if the hostel does not provide lockers. I would never trust to leave my bags alone in a room unlocked.

    4. Keep two wallets. One wallet for small change to buy small gifts and another real hidden wallet for paying for dinner or more expensive items. This way the thieves will see your wallet with the small bills. If they manage to steal it, it won't be a major loss to you.

    5. Try to act like a local. Pickpocketers are more likely to target tourists than locals.

  11. Whoever wrote that if you are black in Germany doesn't know what he's talking about... Most Germans are friendly and outgoing just like most Americans are towards other people... there's always jerks in every race....Just be yourself and treat people the way you want to be treated...  I`m German myself and the people that bothered me while i was there in November was the cops... Make sure you carry your ID/Passport with you at all times... I`m glad i had mine with me... My Son is bi-racial and for some reason the cops stop us... they was being real Buttholes
