I am traveling with 8 other people and we are staying for 2 weeks.. Some of us would like to visit some of the surrounding countries like France,Germany,Austria and possibly Croatia. I have checked out the Eurail website and I am trying to decide which train pass would be best. Right now it looks like the Eurail Select Pass-4 countries would work out well. The cost is $504.00 for 8 days, 4 countries.

I have a few questions concerning this. Is it best to buy the pass before we arrive in Italy or to purchase on-line before we arrive? Does the 8 days mean that I could use the train 2 or more times in one day without losing any future "rides". What I mean by that is if I use the train 3 times in one day, do they only reduce the train pass by one day, not 3 times since I rode the train 3 times that one day?

A couple of people are not too interested in traveling outside of Italy. Which pass would be the best for them? They would like the quickest train that stays in Italy. Thanks,Jim

  1. 2 weeks is not alot of time to go country hoping.    You would hardly get a taste of the country.  Try this website to see which rail pass would make sense.  Last time I was in Italy, it made more sense to buy individual tickets.

You can ride the train as many times as you want in one day, so yes, not 3 times just one.  Hope this makes sense.

Please rethink visiting to many place.  2 weeks in Italy, I would do Rome & surrounding (like Pompeii), Florence (Siena, San G.), & Venice. That gives you a few days in each spot.  Italy should be savoured & not rushed through. Stop & smell the pasta!
