  1. You need to obtain Mexican insurance.  My old insurance company included it on my policy.  I don't know about notifying your finance company, but you need to get the insurance taken care of!

  2. Finance company, probably.

    Insurance company, absolutely.

  3. Call your insurance company, and check with them. US insurance policies are no good in Mexico and you will probably have to buy insurance at the border (US side) so that your vehicle will be covered while down there...

Edit: Be ready for a wild ride, the people down there drive like maniacs!!!

  4. no but you might check in with your insurance company

  5. not but you need a letter from them where especify that you are the owner of the car , bring a car insurance, you red copy of the title credit card, just to make sure bring the latest payment of you license plate . and if you want to go safe just buy a insurance in you city to cover you car during the trip

  6. You will need to get a car permit at the border.  if you are only going to Baja or Sonora, or less than 12 miles into Mexico...this does aNOT apply.  But if you are going anywhere else in Mexico it does.  To get a car permit you can go to the nearest Mexican consulate , or wait and get one in the first town after you cross the border.  You will not be allowed past the 12 mile inspection point without it.  If the car is still financed you MUST have a letter from the finance company n company letterhead stating that you have their permission to take the car to Mexico. It usually takes several weeks to get this letter.  Then, you must also purchase Mexico car insurance.  The permit costs about $100.00  You must also have a valid credit card for them to imprint and save . this is to be sure you take the car OUT of Mexico with you .  It is against the law to sell an American car in Mexico and you would be fined $400.00 by credit card if you tried to leave Mexico without your car.  They are VERY careful about all this.  See websites below for permit info and my favorite Mexico car insurance place...cheap and easy to deal with.
