what documents would we need to enter canada and come back to the US. We are drving there

  1. Passports are Not needed for LAND travel to and from Canada.  Adults need a photo I.D. and  a proof of citizenship...EITHER a passport OR a birth certificate.  Children need their birth certificate.  See 1st site below.   You must also have a signed, notarized letter from the child's other parent to take him out of the U.S.  See 2nd site.  You may or may not be asked for the letter at the border, but if they ask and you do not have it, you will be turned back.


  2. As far as I know, you need a passport now to cross the American-Canadian border, it's no longer just a birth certificate sadly. -- Micgerwal

  3. Passports or birth certificates and if the father of the child is in the child's life than a written letter allowing the child to leave the country. The letter must be noterized
