  1. Go to this website: http://www.xe.com/ucc/    to see $ to Euro conversion. It does the converting for you, just select an amount and hit convert.

As far as designer merchandise, all name brands are going to run the same or AROUND the same price as it is here in the states. You will not save money if you purchase Gucci from Milan vs New York. You can buy knock offs for cheap, just like here in the states.

I am taking a three week trip to London, France and Italy (with most of my time in Italy) and my budget is around $3,000 for everything. But then again, I have friends in two out of the three countries and will be saving on hotel stay.

Buy Euro Rail passes (if you are under 26, depending on the pass you get you will get a discount) and if you stay in hostels or convents you can get by cheap. Figure about $20 for food per day. Museums, on average are going to run you between 16 and 24 dollars per museum. Ground transportation (if you decide on a bus-DO NOT TAKE TAXIS) can get a little expensive. Walking is the cheapest and best way to get around. Figure in for souvenirs and emergency money plus gratuities.

    Have fun and be safe!

  2. i hate to be the barer of bad news.. but..forget about shopping in europe.  I'll give you a few examples.. I saw a pair of gucci glasses in rome.. it cost 240 euros = $ 312.00. I found the same glasses ( i brought with me the model number) for 250 dollars.

I bought my husband a bottle of armani perfume from the duty free shop in rome it cost me 40 euros= 52 dollars i can get the same one here for 40 bucks.

Unfortunatly for people with US dollars europe has now become a place just to go and look at history and eat good food. The good shopping days are over.

  3. I am not positive, but I think that a Euro is equal to about 1.5 US Dollars. That means that our money isn't worth as much as a Euro, which means that things will be a little on the expensive side. And in England, they don't use Euros, they use Pounds which are about twice the value of a dollar. But really, the price of things depends on what you're buying and where you're buying it at. However, be prepared for very high prices...

  4. Traveling to London, Paris and Rome in 5 days, yes, it's possible, but, don't expect to see something in these cities during this time. If you are going just for shopping go in one of these cities, Rome i.e. But as a traveler.... give up !

  5. Goodness, ambitious, aren't we?  I spent 5 nights in Rome and still didn't see everything on my list.  I spent 5 nights in Paris and still missed Versailles and several museums I wanted to see.

Designer bags may be slightly less expensive than the US because of the exchange rate and the costs to import.  Your best bet would be to write down the prices of bags/sunglasses/ fashion things you are interested in, convert that price to Euros, and then compare when you arrive.

For example, a Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 is $620 here.  On the French LV site, it's listed at 415 Euro.  That's under $550, not including VAT.

But, the UK, is on pounds.  Right now, those are basically 1 pound for every $2.  So real quick, a 30 pound no-frills dinner turns into $60.

As far as what "cool things" you'll see there, its up to you.  Get guide books for each city and pick and choose.  This way you won't waste time when you get there.  You'll be prepared to go.
