I am traveling to mexico from san diego on good friday?

i am from australia and i heard in mexico and the states that good friday is a big event due to the large roman catholic populations. will it take extra long to cross the border? and also how long does it usually take, does good friday fall on the 21 of march in the states? does everything close down for easter?

  1. One of your problems will be the big crowds crossing from California.  Good Friday is frequently a day when people can get the afternoon off at work, so it's almost like a 3 day weekend.  Be prepared for big crowds.

    In tourist destinations, people will have to work on Easter.  But if they aren't in a tourism related jobs, they'll probably get the weekend off.  It's an important holiday, and Mexicans have their own traditions to celebrate.  The kids do a thing with eggs full of confetti and they run around trying to smash the eggs on their friends heads.  Also pinatas.
