  1. I don't know why people are so keen on the Iguaçu falls, and it seems such a far and isolated area... If you are going by coach making stopovers in Brazilian southern states, I would definitely recommend Florianópolis for its beaches, nightlife and ecotourism. Porto Alegre further south or Curitiba towards southeastern Brazil are also points of interest, where you could also then take a flight straight to Rio (remember distances are great and transport links are not that efficient). Other famous spots in the south are Blumenau, Brusque and Gramado, but mostly for their European feel - I guess that if you are looking for the Brazilian/South American experience they would not be as interesting.

If you fly straight into the Southeast, then São Paulo is a great metropolis with a scene for every taste, and there are great places in the so-called São Paulo-Rio axis.

  2. You will LOVE the Iguassu falls, they're awesome, I was there last year.

In Buenos Aires you should visit the Recoleta's cementery, it's really beautiful.
