  1. Take a caleche (horse drawn carriage) ride through the Old Port section of town.

Visit St. Joseph's Oratory, which is the green domed building you can see from almost all over Montreal.

Take the subway system along the GREEN or ORANGE lines. It is safe and reliable during the day, and even at night if you are travelling with someone. These two lines stop at many of the tourist locations and connect to all the major downtown malls.

Montreal Chamber Music Festival (Final day - May 24)

I would also try a "poutine" which is essentially french fries with certain toppings. The traditional one is french fries with cheese curds, all smothered in BBQ chicken gravy, but they have some with smoked meat, spaghetti sauce, and other toppings.

I would also look at a Montreal authentic Smoked Meat sandwich. It is a bit like a pastrami on rye, only much better. The CLASSIC places for a smoked meat used to be one of three: Ben's Deli, Schwartz's, or Dunn's. Unfortunately, historic Ben's closed its doors last year and so you now have one less. If you don't want to go all the way to Schwartz's on St. Laurent Blvd, Dunn's restaurant downtown serves a pretty good smoked meat platter, with choice of regular or lean (although quite frankly they both look the same).

Not much going on in Montreal this weekend, but at least you can expect nice warm weather and sunny days.

  2. Besides what the others have already suggested, if you enjoy amusement parks filled with roller coasters, thrill rides, merry-go-rounds, haunted houses and cotton candy then go to La Ronde-Six Flags for sure!

There is so much to see and do (and eat!) in Montreal!

    Poutine? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine

    Oh please...

Who likes soggy French fries overloaded with calories and bad carbohydrates anyways?

You're better off at Schwartz's if you ask me!

Try La Pitoune (water ride) at La Ronde instead, lol!

    Just my opinion.

Have a great time in Montreal!

  3. My wife & I just came back last weekend; I had a conference.  We loved the botanic gardens near the Olympic Stadium.  We've never seen so many tulips and they were throughout the city, beautiful!  Notre Dame Basilica and St. Joseph's Oratory (mentioned earlier) were faves of my wife.  We took the time to walk up Mont Royal to burn off the poutine pounds.  One unusual recommendation; our best meal was a $20 cab ride across the river into Longueuil at a place called Copains Gourmand.  It was warm enough to eat out on the patio, terrific food and excellent service; just a great evening.  Enjoy!

  4. I agree, a must-try is poutine if you've never had any.

Greats places to go see are Old Montreal, where you can just walk through it , also the Biodome and insectarium are great places too. The "Musée des Beaux-arts" of Montréal is also a great place to go, especially if it rains or something.

  5. Olympic Stadium. Take the elevator to the top.  On a clear day, you get a great view of the skyline!

  6. Here's a site on Montreal Tourism and make sure you have some POUTINE.
